Lets be honest! This is the match up all Real Hulk Fans want to see. Hulk vs Black Dwarf. Right off the gate Black Dwarf has size and most likely a way higher baseline strength then Hulk. We will have to face it Hulk fans. Hulk will get owned first encounter. Hickman is making it known he is a powerhouse on a Cosmic scale! Marvel is trying to bring some new villains into 616 universe. With Marvel stating these guys are in Silver Surfer's league all in their own way.
Black Order Lieutenants will have a better pool of Intel on adversaries strength and weaknesses. Black Dwarf might just let it all out quick and hard. If Hulk is caught off guard he will get rocked. But with that said Hulk's healing factor is in thee Elite Class of Healing Factors. If Hulk's Healing Factor can keep up with the damage taken. He can very much amp up to give considerable damage back. Since Marvel's launch of Marvel Now the number of Incredible feats by Hulk are slim. Hulk dropping Starbrand and Mind Controlled Hulk subduing Thor..both written in Hickman's Avengers run. But with those few above level feats there is real potential in Hulk's corner. Hulk was physically unfazed by Starbrand's Orbital BFR Energy Projection Burst. And Starbrand was holding his own against the Avengers.
I believe Hickman has the ability to write a unforgettable showdown between both behemoths. Hickman has shown great respect to Hulk's power set thus far in his run. But this is all conjecture on my part. We have not seen Black Dwarf in battle. Corvus Glaive is thee only one thus far to rear his ugly head on panel. As die hard Hulk fan my gut is telling me Hulk won't get too much Black Dwarf alone time. Maybe a blow or two we could hope. I see Hickman writing Hulk and Hyperion tag-team against the Dense Star himself Black Dwarf.
It's hard for me to judge at the moment. Because you have to remember that Hulk's baseline strength is leagues above what it used to be (some believe it to be as high as Thor's full physical strength). It can even be argued that Hulk at baseline strength is a planet buster (easily overpowering and resiststing the Stranger's energy force that can change the orbit of planets in Tales to Astonish #89 & Gray Hulk shattering an asteroid twice the size of Earth are good examples) in his own right.
ReplyDeleteI think these articles can explain it better than I can. Make sure you read them both, comments and all, 'cause it's definitely worth it.

If Black Dwarf is stronger than Hulk at the beginning of the fight, if there is one, that doesn't mean he'll come out on top of conflict. Abomination was stronger than Hulk, but within seconds Hulk has shown to surpass his might through amping in mere seconds/moments. And as for the Zeus fight, as I think you were hinting at in regards to Hulk's healing factor, there was a lot of factors in that battle such as: Hulk wasn't getting angry or extremely enraged, nor was he there to fight/win in the first place, but to instead sacrifice himself to the Gods to help his family & friends; Zeus was greatly amping his powers and using vastly powerful mystical energies to slow Hulk's healing factor and other abilities so he could come out as the victor while also encasing his fists in powerful mystical lightning to cause further damage, so he was technically cheating to a large degree in that fight.
Another problem I have is in regards to the story, since it's been stated that Hulk and the other Marvel powerhouses will be off-planet fighting the Builders when Thanos and the Black Order arrive on Earth. Now, I know our main powerhouses will return to Earth, so we can only hope Hulk gets to tangle with Black Dwarf and the rest of Thanos' Cull Obsidian/Black Order. Hickman stated that, dividing up the 18 member Avengers roster, will leave us with three Avengers against each General and three for Thanos. If that's the case, then I'm willing to bet that it will be Hulk, Thor and Hyperion who will likely be the ones to lay the smash-down on Thanos since they're the only three who can engage the Mad Titan one-on-one in a stalemate.
Hickman has been giving us some great Hulk material in his Avengers run thus far. He's definitely given us some great feats... and a Maestro cameo! I only hope we get to see Hulk battle Black Dwarf, Corvus Glave, Proxima Midnight, Supergiant and Ebony Maw of the Cull Obsidian/Black Order. And like you said, we have yet o see any of these generals in battle. I think we can assume that Black Dwarf, like the Hulk, is all about smashing which is why Thanos recruited him just in case he needed someone who could match the Green Goliath in a fight.
I also agree that Hickman is doing a great job by creating new villains for the Marvel Universe. I only hope they show up as villains for the Hulk in Waid's Indestructible or in Hickman's Avengers. I wouldn't mind some solo-issues in Hickman's Avengers where Hulk tangles with Black Dwarf, Corvus Glave and the other generals on an alien planet... maybe on one of the Shadow/Oldstrong people. It's quite apparent that Hickman loves Hulk/Banner as a character.
On another subject, did you see the preview for Savage Wolverine #5? It's awesome! The Hulk is talking, speaking more in a few panels than within 8 issues of Waid's run! You have to check it out! And the art by Cho? Epic! Hulk, Wolverine, Shanna, Amadeus Cho, Dinosaurs, Giant Apes, Savage Island in the Savage Land = Awesomeness!
